Getting to the hill
Metro line B or C to Colosseo puts you out beside the Colosseum itself. The Colle Oppio is the hill on the other side of the road, and the walk up into the park takes a few minutes and is genuinely uphill. The entrance you want is on Via della Domus Aurea, inside the park. It is not a grand frontage — the site is under the park, so what you are looking for is a way down rather than a way in, and it is easy to walk past while looking for a building. Get the day right before you worry about the door, though — it opens three days a week.
Timing your arrival
